Ascending notes and raspy chatter (Magpie)
Ascending notes and raspy chatter (Magpie)
55 x 35 ¼ inches framed
Charcoal on paper
This striking Black-billed Magpie has beautiful black and white plumage and a wonderfully long tail. They are intelligent birds and very vocal, often participating in a regular stream of querulous calls. This bird was the first one to “knock” on our door. One morning, I heard it tapping with its beak on our glass sliding door; so, I felt compelled to draw it. This bird sits on top of a tree remnant, post-fire, serving as a symbol of hope and regeneration.
