This crafty corvid is one of the smartest birds in the world. Some of the clever skills that crows are known for are turning sticks into hooked tools to extract food, mimicking the human voice, and facial recognition. This particular crow hopped from a nearby fence onto my ten-year-old daughter, and it contently perched on her arm. The crow briefly jumped onto my arm, which made me feel a new, odd sensation—a mixture of unease, awe, and strength. This drawing was inspired by the crow that we met that day as well as observing these magnificent birds in post-fire regimes. The bird sits on top of a tree remnant, post-fire, serving as a symbol of hope and regeneration.
